Clever stuff

Recently, I came across this article on the BBC news; Spam Weapon Helps Preserve Books and I’m just in awe as ever of folks who can come up with something as simple and as effective as this at solving a problem. I’m not sure if we have an official line as to whether or not we can participate, but it would seem to be a great opportunity. Read more about it here.

The technology is developed by a company called reCAPTCHA and they seem to be involved with our friend Brewster over at the Internet Archive who always seems to be in there somewhere when it comes to new technology in the digital library game.

The idea put me in mind of the bloke who invented cats eyes for some reason – I guess just down to the elegant simplicity of the solution. Perhaps I’ll have my eureka moment next year…
